Role Purpose
The Senior Radio Optimisation Engineer will form part of Connect44’s core technical delivery team, providing specialist radio optimisation expertise across a range of UK and European network programmes.
The role focuses on optimising both new and existing multi-technology radio networks (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G) to achieve performance targets, enhance service quality and deliver efficient, cost-effective outcomes. You will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, automation and Self-Organising Network (SON) capabilities, and support the evolution of best-practice optimisation standards across the business.
This is a remote UK-based role with occasional travel to team and project locations across the UK and Europe as required.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver radio optimisation strategies and plans aligned to performance and quality objectives
• Conduct proactive network investigations and performance analysis across wide geographic areas
• Manage radio capacity and highlight emerging demands or constraints
• Configure and optimise network parameters to improve coverage, capacity, throughput, latency and reliability
• Utilise advanced planning and optimisation tools to assess network behaviour and implement improvements
• Apply optimisation techniques across multi-vendor environments, including Nokia solutions
• Monitor and improve key service performance indicators and customer experience metrics
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex network performance issues
• Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance network efficiency
• Explore, evaluate and deploy Self-Organising Network (SON) features and automation capabilities
• Analyse the effectiveness of automation and propose enhancements
• Lead or support drive testing activities, including analysis and actionable recommendations
• Produce mitigation plans for risks relating to coverage, capacity or performance
• Provide clear progress updates, risk assessments and technical reporting to stakeholders
• Support wider business objectives including project delivery, pre-sales/bid support and service improvement initiatives
• Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, suppliers and engineering teams to drive fault resolution
• Contribute to best-practice development and knowledge sharing within the optimisation function
Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience
• Strong expertise in radio network optimisation across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies
• In-depth knowledge of air interface parameters, propagation models, antenna systems, frequency and PCI planning, and capacity management
• Proficiency with industry-standard radio planning and optimisation tools
• Experience working with Nokia radio equipment and associated optimisation techniques
• Solid understanding of SON concepts and network automation approaches
• Ability to analyse large and complex datasets and translate findings into practical improvements
• Commercial awareness and understanding of performance impact
• High level of IT literacy including Microsoft Office
• Full UK driving licence
